A Hole in the Soul. Tree. Sculpture by Vicki Jayne Yates.
This large statement sculpture tells the story of healing a hole in the soul.
The soul is the essence of a person and what makes us a unique being. Soul consciousness helps to start with healing the hole in your soul. It can be mended. It takes courage, grit and a willingness to face and tackle the issues that caused the hole.
This sculpture is made from driftwood pieces for the connection to earth from which the trees grew. The fallen branches ended up in the sea and the water element shaped and smoothed the wood and washed them to shore.
The driftwood pieces symbolise the story from each tree it came from. Trees are symbolic for love and protection. For health, growth, death and the cycles of life. Trees are majestic, strong and magical. They are woven into myths, folklore and for many people have deep and sacred meanings. Trees are said to be the homes for tree spirits.
People celebrate and connect with trees with the custom of hanging objects on the tree or decorating it. The belief of hanging cords or ribbons to win favour for loved ones or for good luck. There is also a connection to wishes and healing in this practice. To symbolise this this sculpture has handmade braids.
These braids have been decorated with beautiful feathers. The feathers connect us to the air element. In the braids and feathers are 2 bronze coloured metal charms. A bird skull and a feather. The metal is to connect us to the fire element that created it.
On the main piece of driftwood just below the hole is a beautiful Bloodstone crystal for the benefits it brings. This beautiful bloodstone crystal is dark green with unique patterns and red spots. It is said to symbolise significant change, spiritual transformation, new life, new beginnings, and new experiences. The old you moving to the new you. A stone for vitality of life. Bloodstone can be a comfort during life’s struggles. It is a stone for protection and grounding. For growth and courage.
